Celtic midfielder Kerr McInroy’s loan at Airdrie is over and he will return to the training centre at Lennoxtown on Monday.

However, with his contract at the Bhoys expiring, his future at the club is still in doubt and he’s been honest that he doesn’t really know what his next step will be.

The 21-year-old had a productive spell on loan at the Diamonds, scoring four goals and assisting three more in 12 appearances for the club.

It’s undoubtedly been a confidence boost and he’s admitted he could even end up back at the Scottish League One side.

Speaking to The Daily Record, he said: “I’m heading back in to Celtic on Monday, and then I’ll make my decision from there.

“I don’t know where I’m going to be, to be honest, but I could eventually end up coming back here – you never know. I’ve really enjoyed my time here, I’ve loved every second of it. I’ve really loved my time here, it probably couldn’t have gone any better.

“I scored a few goals and really enjoyed my football, so I’m going back in to sort out what’s happening, but I would never close the door on here, because I’ve loved every minute of it.

“The most important thing about being here is enjoying it, I’m playing well and scoring a few goals and the team is winning, which obviously helps, so I’ve been buzzing with it all.”

McInroy, who has also spent time out on loan at Dunfermline Athletic, has yet to feature for the senior side at Celtic but has been involved in pre-season. He’s always been a stalwart of the club’s development sides over the years.

He might not quite have the quality to make the step up to the first-team squad, but it appears we’ll find out for sure after he’s had chats with staff at Lennoxtown next week.

The player may well prefer the opportunity to play on a week-to-week basis. After solid form this season, he could even find himself making the step up to the Championship or Premiership from League One.
