As Celtic fans continue to wait for the club’s official announcement on the arrival of Shane Duffy, the player himself has ramped up the excitement levels on social media.

Duffy has never been one to back down from his pro-Celtic actions on Twitter in particular. Whether it be after a derby match, a league, or perhaps a European game has been won, Duffy will generally react with delight on his official platforms.

And he’s been at it again after a tweet from 2018 resurfaced in the wake of his imminent arrival. After Celtic won a pulsating derby match 3-2 at Ibrox two years ago, Duffy posted a tweet saying that he wished he had signed for Celtic.

A Hoops supporter has retweeted it in the last couple of days, replying with: “Sure you’ll be there in December…last-minute winner will do nicely”.

Duffy has gone on to like the tweet, which is yet further evidence towards the idea this deal is more or less done and dusted, even if Celtic don’t actually travel to Ibrox until January!

One out of three targets down

With reports coming out that the player has completed his medical, everything now seems a formality (Daily Record). The player appears ready to commit to the club and only the international break appears to be holding things back.

However, this will signal a key part of Neil Lennon’s transfer business being crossed off. Effectively, that will be one of what should be three main targets for the manager.

Even though five signings will have come through the Parkhead door this summer once Duffy signs, a left-back and a right-winger haven’t. Yet these remain two priorities before the window shuts.

Duffy’s arrival, whenever it’s announced, will cross off any need for centre-backs. Lennon will have five solid options at his disposal for the season ahead (unless there are any surprise departures).

But Celtic can’t rest on their laurels here. There’s more work to be done, and we can’t continue to drag it out over the first couple of months of the season.

Duffy’s liking of the Celtic supporter’s tweet is almost like confirmation from the player himself that the deal is done. However, celebrations over his signing should be kept to a minimum until we see how we’re looking come the end of deadline day.

In other news, Celtic will come up against an old player of theirs should Riga beat Tre Fiori.
