Important Lennoxtown revamp mentioned after Callum McGregor’s new Celtic contract

Callum McGregor has been speaking about the rude health Celtic are in as a club.

The Hoops skipper has agreed a new contract, tying him down until the summer of 2028. It’s another major statement from the club after the recent Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda renewals.

McGregor will be 35 when his contract is up, so it’s a great bit of news to have him committing even more of his best years to Celtic.

The positive current state of the club was clearly an important factor for McGregor, as he explained in a Celtic TV interview.

“The work the guys have done behind the scenes. Michael [Nicholson], Peter [Lawwell]. They continue to drive the club forward.

“Mark’s [Lawwell] done some unbelievable work in the recruitment department as well. The coaches, the medical staff, all a really cohesive unit.

“The one thing that we have in common is that we want to be successful. There’s a lot of work going on at Lennoxtown as well to revamp the training ground. So that’s moving in the right direction.

“And the club’s in the Champions League so it’s in an elite environment — where we all want to be.”

When you put it like that, Celtic are in a fine place right now. While mentions for Nicholson and Peter Lawwell are perhaps unsurprising, it’s great to hear Mark Lawwell being praised by McGregor.

Given that the former City Football Group employee is tasked with bringing people in to the club, you may have expected him and McGregor not to cross paths.

But it appears that the skipper is all too aware of what is going on off the pitch. That can only be a good thing.

The Lennoxtown upgrades are positive too, and clearly something that are important to McGregor given the mention.

Being a Champions League club will aid us in everything we do, from recruitment and marketing to infrastructure and fan engagement.

As McGregor says, it’s all about kicking on now. Who knows how many more trophies we could have under our belt by 2028.
