Ryan Christie has been nominated for the PFA Goal of the Season award this season.

The Celtic star is out for the season after needing surgery on his cheekbone. It came during a nasty challenge from Dominic Ball in the Scottish Cup semi-final clash against Aberdeen nearly three weeks ago.

It was thought that Christie’s season would be over, but in fact, he’ll be making another appearance at the PFA Awards Dinner on May 5th.

His nomination was confirmed by Sky Sports yesterday. The Hoops attacker has been selected for his stunning strike against Hearts in the Betfred Cup semi-final back in October. You can view that stunning goal for yourself by clicking here.

Christie is one of 10 nominees and one of six from the Premiership this season. Other notable goals include Adam Hammill vs Hibernian and Stephen Dobbie vs Aberdeen.

The goal that made Christie shine

The goal Christie scored that day was the third of the 3-0 rout. But, for the former Inverness and Aberdeen star, it was his big moment to shine.

It sparked a terrific period of form for Christie, as he became a mainstay in the Celtic team and scored seven goals in 12 matches during that period. His strike against Hearts was almost a reintroduction from him to the supporters.

Overall, Christie has managed a fine campaign at Parkhead. It’s been his most productive yet with 40 games and 11 goals to his name. He’s been such a vital cog in both Brendan Rodgers’ and Neil Lennon’s respective sides.

Compare it to last season when Christie spent the full season on loan at Aberdeen. It’s a remarkable turnaround in his Celtic career, with the goal against Hearts proving to be his breakthrough moment.

There are plenty of sensational goals up for nomination this year. It would hardly be a surprise if Christie didn’t win it considering the standard this season.

He’s the only Celtic player nominated, however. It’s interesting too given the fact Scott Brown won Goal of the Season at Celtic’s official club awards.

Brown didn’t make the PFA list, but Christie certainly deserves to for what was an important goal in not just the cup match, but for Christie’s Celtic career.
