Celtic defender Marvin Compper’s lack of playing time since joining the club is almost legendary at this point.
He has played one game since joining up at the club in January 2018. It seems somewhat inevitable that the Hoops will try to move him on in the summer, but incredibly enough, he could have a part to play for the Hoops in the weeks to come.
Injury crisis

Celtic are in the middle of an injury crisis in defence at the moment. Dedryck Boyata suffered a hamstring injury against Rangers, which Neil Lennon fears may keep him out for the rest of the season.
Filip Benkovic also missed the game against Rangers, and Kieran Tierney went off injured during the game.

Running out of centre-backs
With Kristoffer Ajer and Jozo Simunovic the only fit centre-backs at the club, Compper could well be involved for Celtic in the weeks ahead.

It would make sense for him to be on the bench at least for Wednesday night’s game against St Mirren. With the title all but one, the Hoops don’t need to gamble on players who have injury issues. It makes more sense to rest those players with the Scottish Cup semi-final in mind.
As a result, Compper could finally get a run of sorts in the first-team. It might not be enough to save Compper’s Celtic career. But if needs must, the player has a chance to prove that he can do a job for the Hoops.
