Is Celtic’s Christopher Jullien making a social media mistake?

An otherwise quiet Wednesday for Celtic fans changed when Hoops centre-back Christopher Jullien made some very interesting comments on his Instagram account.

The player, Celtic’s record-breaking defensive signing at £7 million, apologised for his poor performance in the 2-0 loss to Livingston in the last game before the international break.

“I win or I learn”

“Have to right some things. Sorry Celtic fans for being too nervous last time, won’t happen again. And to be fair I have to thank Livingston’s forwards for that wake-up call, either I win or I learn” he said.

On the one hand it is good to see a player acknowledge when they have not performed well. Jullien has been excellent for the Hoops since singing from Toulouse, and his performance against Livingston was his poorest so far for the club.

He had a hard time against Lyndon Dykes, and it is a good sign that he has announced that it ‘won’t happen again’.

However, perhaps he was guilty of being too honest with his comments. Other teams could copy Livingston’s blueprint for success against Jullien by putting an imposing striker up against him.

Could face regular battles with physical strikers

That is what Livingston done when they used Dykes against Jullien, and it paid off for them. You have to imagine that Aberdeen will do the same and put Sam Cosgrove up against the player when the Hoops travel to Pittodrie next Sunday.

Jullien has proven that he can handle the big occasion at Celtic. He was imperious in the recent win over Rangers at Ibrox.

However, he will perhaps need to prove that he can handle coming up against physical strikers after his poor performance against Livingston.

A good way to do that would be winning the battle against Sam Cosgrove of Aberdeen. That would show that the player has recovered from his display at Livingston. Jullien will likely have the majority of the Hoops fans on his side after his admission. Now is the time to show it on the park.
