It seems like Celtic aren’t too far away from securing the signing of Ismaila Soro this month – after the Ivorian midfielder’s club manager confirmed that the deal had been “closed in principle”.
New Bnei Yehuda boss Elisha Levy also confirmed that he had known for over a week that the 21-year-old would be moving on to pastures new.
“Ismaila Soro’s transfer deal to Celtic has been closed in principle and he is expected to leave in the near future,” the former Israel boss said, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
“When I took this job I knew he was going, so this isn’t a surprise to me.
“It just means we will have to look for reinforcements in his position.”
The reaction in the Celtic support to Soro will be interesting
Levy’s comments are about as concrete as evidence that you’d ever want to see that a player is on his way to Celtic. The manager has waved his man goodbye and we will have a new midfielder at the club very shortly.
It will be interesting to see how the signing goes down with the Celtic support. Our move for Polish forward Patryk Klimala has been met with a mix of hope and scepticism and you would imagine that the same reaction will be in evidence for Soro.
We don’t know a great deal about Soro other than that he’s been playing pretty regularly for Bnei Yehuda since the start of the season. He last featured just yesterday evening – playing the entirety of their 2-1 defeat to Hapoel Tel Aviv – so it’s fair to say that he won’t take too much time to get up to speed with his team-mates.
It is encouraging to see the club pushing on with some more transfer business. It seems like this one has been in the pipeline for some time given Levy’s comments. As always, the proof will be in the pudding with how he plays.
