Calciomercato journalist Daniele Longo believes that Kris Ajer’s agent is set for crunch talks with AC Milan at some stage today.
Neil Lennon categorically stated at his pre-match press conference yesterday for Riga that there had been “nothing concrete” on the Norwegian. He told Celtic TV that the player: “is very focused. He will start tomorrow and he’s looking forward to the game.”
This comes after a summer of speculation over the former Start man’s future. Despite being a constant in the Celtic side this season, links with the San Siro club just won’t go away (Milan News).
And it appears that Lennon’s dismissal of any genuine offers last week has been contradicted. Reporting on Twitter, popular Calciomercato reporter Longo stated that a meeting will be held today between Ajer’s representatives and Milan.
There can’t be any discussions without an agreement between clubs
It’s an interesting update from Longo, who clearly will have his own sources.
But you can’t simply ignore what Lennon said yesterday. If there has been nothing concrete sent to the club, then you can’t believe that a meeting is scheduled between the Serie A club and Ajer’s agents.
If there is anything brewing between them, then that would be called tapping up and isn’t allowed in football. Agents can only speak to potential suitors before a fee is agreed upon if their current club allows them to. Given the situation Celtic are in, you can’t see them allowing Ajer to speak to Milan after Lennon’s comments yesterday.
The player is also preparing for a huge game tonight in Riga. The last thing Lennon would allow is his player to be constantly by the phone on the day of a match waiting on news of his meeting.
You simply have to stand by the manager here. He didn’t come across as someone who was resigned to losing his player. In fact, it was quite the opposite vibe Lennon was giving out.
For now, all we can do is wait and see what comes of Longo’s prediction. But it will certainly raise some eyebrows from supporters tuning into Lenny’s presser not even 24 hours ago.
