Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain is taking a step into the unknown, as he continues his run as the Hoops’ first choice goalkeeper.

Should he be selected for the game against Cluj on Wednesday night, it will be his first ever appearance in a Champions League third qualifier.

The player has admitted that playing in the group stages proper of the competition would be a huge deal for him and his team-mates.

“It’d be huge for me” he said, as reported by the Herald.

“We’d then reap the rewards of playing some fantastic teams in Europe. It would be fantastic for all of us.”

Bain will not have any fears about facing Cluj. It should be remembered that his Celtic debut was at Ibrox. He turned in a fine display in a 3-2 win over Rangers.

Since then, Bain’s Celtic career has gone from strength to strength.

Won first medals of career

He was a key part of the side which clinched last season’s domestic treble. In the process, he won the first medals of his football career.

Now he seems set to be Celtic’s number one goalkeeper for the foreseeable future. Of course, things can change quickly in football. Bain could suffer an injury, or a loss of form.

For now though, he looks set to be a Celtic mainstay for a long time to come.
