Liam Shaw has given his first interview as a Morecambe player after sealing a season-long loan exit to the English League One side from Celtic on deadline day.
The move for Shaw happened late with his agent notifying of Morecambe’s interest only yesterday. A quick trip back to his homeland followed, and he’s absolutely delighted to be at a club where he can get first-team minutes on a regular basis.
He told the club’s official media channel: “I’m really happy. When the news came through, the manager [Derek Adams] rang me up and I told him I couldn’t wait to go, because I just wanted to go and play football. It’s a big opportunity for me and I just want to thank the manager and this club.

“It didn’t take much for me to come here. Hopefully, I can play a lot of games and do well. I feel like the manager is really good and that he will give me that opportunity. I can’t wait to get started.
“The manager just wants me to play how I play, he’s seen me before, and I just need to show what I can do, and hopefully it will all go well.”
Shaw was also asked about his Celtic experiences and how much of an impact his short time in Scotland has had.
The midfielder continued: “Yeah, it’s really good up there. The setup is really good. All the lads are good, I’ve learned a lot from training with these kinds of players. I feel like I’ve gotten better and developed a lot. I’m just ready to put it into actual games now.
“Playing in that Europa League game against Real Betis was a big achievement for my family and me. They were all really excited and proud for me to do that. It’s one that I can have for the rest of my life now that I’ve done it.”
Shaw started in a 3-2 home victory over the Spaniards in last season’s group stage, which also happened to be his only Celtic competitive start.
This loan move is a great chance for him to prove a point he can find a consistent level across a tough campaign and hopefully he manages to stand out and progress his career from here.
Good luck Liam!
