‘It’s worrying’ – Why Aberdeen’s defeat to Rangers has Willie Miller panicked about Scottish Cup final vs Celtic

Celtic’s win over Hibs proved Brendan Rodgers has no intention of allowing his players to relax despite the league title already being won.

The Celtic manager still has a treble to play for and after watching the Bhoys beat Hibs at Parkhead, fans will be confident that the team are fully focused ahead of the Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen.

However, for Jimmy Thelin’s side, the Hampden final against Celtic gives Aberdeen their only opportunity to pick up silverware this season.

But it seems that Pittodrie legend Willie Miller is seriously worried over the upcoming final and didn’t hold back how he really feels about facing Celtic at the end of the month.

Willie Miller slams Aberdeen’s defeat to Rangers ahead of Scottish Cup final vs Celtic

Miller was on co-commentary duty as Aberdeen took on Rangers at Ibrox yesterday. And after watching his side get battered 4-0, the BBC man was under no illusions about how his team will fare at Hampden if they put in that kind of performance against Celtic.

Miller told BBC Radio Sportsound [8m 45s], “They didn’t have any direction or leadership on the field of play to actually say, ‘look, guys, we need to get a little bit tighter here. We need to get a little bit more solid here. Here is a problem. You two sitting midfield players, give us a little bit of help in front of the two centre backs. You two full backs, don’t bomb forward. If we don’t have the ball wait until we’ve got the ball in there’.

“Listen, it was such a disorganised, disjointed second half performance. And on the back of the performance against St. Mirren as well, it’s worrying.

“It’s worrying going into a cup final.”

Willie Miller says Aberdeen ‘will be taken apart’ vs Celtic after Rangers defeat

Holding Rangers 0-0 heading into the second half at Ibrox, Aberdeen collapsed to lose the game 4-0 and the final 45 minutes of the game left Miller in fear for the final against Celtic.

Miller continued, “I know we’ve still got two games to go before that and Aberdeen have got the opportunity to get a little bit of momentum going.

“But they don’t have it just now. And it’s very concerning the way they just fell apart in the second half. So it’s still a great opportunity for them to finish the season with the cup final.

“But if they play like anything like that, anything close like that with Celtic on form, they will be taken apart.”

Celtic’s record against The Dons in the Scottish Cup since 2000 is incredibly impressive. In nine meetings between the two clubs, Aberdeen have won just two.

Celtic have beaten them on five occasions and the last time they both met in a Scottish Cup final was, of course, in the Invincibles Treble season.

Celtic fans will be hoping for a repeat of that scoreline, although maybe not to leave it so late, as Rodgers looks to win his third treble as Hoops boss.
