Emilio Izaguirre has claimed that the Hoops are interested in signing his Honduras team-mate Alberth Elis.

The Hoops left-back revealed that the Scottish champions have asked Izaguirre about the striker on a few occasions.

“Celtic have asked me about a few players from Honduras” he said, as reported by the Daily Record.

“Asked me several times”

“They’ve asked me several times about Elis. Who knows? Maybe one day they will sign players from Honduras like me.”

Elis currently plays for Houston Dynamo in the MLS. He has scored four goals in 12 games for his team this season.

It is certainly interesting that the Hoops are allegedly on the lookout for a new striker.

Hoops have lacked strikers at times

At times this season the only striker available has been Odsonne Edouard. Leigh Griffiths has missed much of the season with off-field issues. Vakoun Issouf Bayo has rarely featured since joining the club.

That has lead to situations like Mikey Johnston playing up-front for the Hoops. That situation did not suit either the player or the club.

Celtic obviously don’t want to be in a similar situation next season. That could well mean that they bring in a new striker in the summer transfer window.

Elis could be that man. There will be many players linked with the Hoops in the upcoming weeks though, so only time will tell.
