Jack Aitchison has sent a heartfelt message to Celtic and their supporters after he confirmed his move to Barnsley on deadline day.

Aitchison had been with the club all the way through his youth days as he graduated from Celtic’s Lennoxtown base. He would go on to become the club’s youngest ever goalscorer when he was 16, and would score a host of goals for the development squad.

However, today, the striker agreed to call time on his Celtic career. Barnsley snapped him up on a three-year contract, with the Championship side stating that he’ll be sent out on loan to League Two immediately.

And Aitchison hasn’t forgotten the influence Celtic have had on his career. Here’s a look at his brilliant Twitter message published just minutes ago:

More than a club

If anything shows you just how Celtic is more than a club then it’s this. From these four images you can see how Aitchison has grown and managed to get some memories at Parkhead that he’ll cherish forever.

There is undoubted sadness that he never managed to make the breakthrough at Parkhead. However, that’s been evident for some time now, and there’s an understanding there from all parties that this was the right move.

And it’s a terrific move too. Aitchison is just off a fine loan spell at Forest Green Rovers. He’s proven he can cut it in League Two, and he’ll have confidence in his ability to work his way up to Championship level.

Of course, at 20 years of age, it may not be a permanent goodbye either. If he manages to develop by getting regular minutes at senior level, then Aitchison may one day find himself back in Glasgow.

But for now, we all wish him well as he embarks on a new chapter in his career.

In other news, key talks are reportedly set to occur between Celtic and AC Milan even after the transfer window passes.
