Jack Hendry leaving Celtic is the best thing that could happen for him

The prospect of Jack Hendry leaving Celtic may have supporters pleased, but it’s also exactly what the player needs to revive his career.

The former Dundee centre-back has been linked with a move to Hull City before the transfer window ends. Championship outfit Hull were reported by the Daily Mail as being “very likely” to snap up Hendry on loan.

And if that is indeed the case, Celtic will surely accept. The defender is currently fifth choice at the back, with Nir Bitton even playing ahead of him in the pecking order. It’s bad times for Hendry at Parkhead, and a move for him, even if it’s temporary, couldn’t be more positive for him.

Having made just 26 appearances since signing back in January 2018, Hendry is running out of time in Glasgow. He has almost become vilified due to his poor performances in European qualification last summer. But the move to Hull, if it comes off, gives him a unique opportunity.

Performing well in the Championship would be huge for Hendry. It would show Celtic supporters that he can compete in a real high-quality division. And, even if his Celtic career can’t be revived, it would seriously increase interest from other parties in him.

Hendry leaving Celtic will boost his profile

At the moment, he’s an obscure figure at Parkhead. There’s been no reported interest in him throughout the entire summer, outside of the Hull link. Getting himself out there and simply boosting his profile will do his career a power of good.

Who knows? A good season at the KCOM Stadium could even provide him with a chance to resurrect his Celtic career next season. But, from the outside looking in, it appears he has next to chance of doing anything at the moment.

Hendry must get away from Parkhead at all costs. Playing again is vital to him not stagnating at the Hoops. Neil Lennon will undoubtedly be doing all he can to help shift Hendry on, and the Scotland international must also be itching for it to happen too.

It’s unfair to say his time is up at Celtic altogether. The success stories we’ve had from loan stars in Ryan Christie, Kristoffer Ajer, and Callum McGregor shows that making an impression elsewhere can be done. Then again, that trio never left with such a poor reputation amongst the support.

In any case, there’s no denying a Parkhead exit is essential for Hendry’s career. He shouldn’t just want it to happen. At this stage, he needs it to happen.
