Jack Ross wants special treatment for Hibs from SPFL in build-up to Celtic final

Hibs manager Jack Ross is hoping that the SPFL will give his side an easier schedule in the build-up to the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic next month.

Hibernian will play Celtic at Hampden on December 19th. The final is part of a busy schedule for both teams.

The Easter Road side plays seven matches between now and then, with the last coming on the Tuesday before the Hampden date.

Celtic also have seven games to contend with, including travel abroad to Germany to play Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Europa League.

Ross seems to think Hibs are being hard done by and has called for them to have a look at it, telling The Daily Record: “We’ve got a huge game on Wednesday, then at the weekend and thereafter. It would be nice if the SPFL did us a little favour in the lead up to the final, with the number of games we’ve got ahead of a showpiece final.

“I won’t hold my breath in that respect but it would be beneficial for all concerned. But at the moment we need to take today’s performance into the games coming up. We’ll enjoy this feeling for tonight then back to work tomorrow morning.”

Sorry to say Jack, but this is the nature of competing for trophies and I doubt the league board will be spending much time thinking about this.

Postponing either Hibs or Celtic games in the build-up to the final is only going to cause fixture congestion down the line. Celtic’s ambitions go well beyond December and this final. I don’t think this would suit the Bhoys at all.

The SPFL can’t then postpone one of Hibs’ games and not a Celtic one either, as that would be an unfair advantage.

So both squads will just have to suck it up and embrace the busy schedule. There is a mid-season winter break to rest up after all.

In other news, Connor Goldson’s shocking post-match comments will be music to Celtic ears.
