Celtic winger James Forrest has named Ajax as the team the Hoops must look to emulate in the Champions League.
The Dutch side have shocked Europe by defeating Real Madrid and Juventus in the Champions League. They now take on Tottenham in the semi-final of the competition on Tuesday night.
Forrest has been impressed by Ajax’s performances in Europe’s biggest club competition.
“Showed what can be done”

“I think a lot of the teams with lesser budgets will take a lot of confidence from that because they have showed what can be done” he said, as reported by the Daily Record.
“Celtic have been successful in Europe before so it would be good to get back to that and Ajax have showed what’s possible.”

Parallels between sides
Interestingly, Ajax failed to qualify for the Champions League group stages last season, just like Celtic failed to this season.

So, there are parallels that can be drawn between the sides. However, it seems unlikely that the Hoops will be reaching the last four of the Champions League any time soon.
Celtic, in all honesty, will possibly be making domestic football the priority for the next two seasons. The reason: going for nine, then 1o league titles in a row.
Therefore, whilst the Champions League will still important for the money it brings in, it could go on the back burner. The Hoops’ priority will be to make Scottish football history by winning 10 titles in a row.
