James Forrest has the chance to equal the record of Celtic legend Bobby Lennox if the Hoops beat St Mirren in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

Celtic return to Hampden Park this weekend for the first time since the Hoops were beaten by the Buddies in the Premier Sports Cup final.

With the Scottish Premiership title race hanging in the balance, the Bhoys will consider the Scottish Cup as their best chance of winning any silverware, but reaching a final alone would be enough for Forrest to make history.

James Forrest on the verge of making history at Celtic

Forrest has racked up several accolades during his time at Parkhead, including the honour of being Celtic’s most decorated player of all time.

The winger’s role has reduced to a bit-part substitute but he will more than likely make an appearance at some point, with Martin O’Neill still a fan.

If the Hoops win on Sunday, Forrest will have the chance to play in his eighth Scottish Cup final.

That would put him level with Lennox and four behind Billy McNeill, who still leads the way with 12 Scottish Cup final appearances.

Lennox has more winners’ medals than any other Celtic player (nine) but Forrest (eight) can also equal that if the Bhoys go on to win the trophy.

How James Forrest feels about being Celtic’s most decorated player

After winning the Scottish Premiership last season, Forrest became Celtic’s most decorated player of all time by lifting his 26th major honour.

To reach 30 trophies before he hangs up his boots would be incredible for the 34-year-old and after moving one step closer to doing so in 2025, he told BBC Scotland: “It’s hard to put into words, it’s a really good achievement. It shows the commitment from everyone.

“The club speaks for itself, wherever you go its recognised, so to play a small part in that is unbelievable. It comes from being here in such a successful era with so many great players with so many good managers.

“You work together through all the good and bad times and I feel as though I have had so many ups. Hopefully I have more to come.”
