Anthony Ralston never lets Celtic down, and that alone sets him apart inside this Hoops squad. His value is not built on appearances, it is built on trust.
At Celtic, minutes are earned, but standards do not change when they disappear. Ralston has spent long spells outside the starting side, yet his level has not dropped when called upon.
That consistency is not accidental, and it is recognised by teammate James Forrest and was also backed up by Jim Goodwin in Celtic’s win over St Mirren in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

James Forrest says Anthony Ralston’s Celtic standards will benefit Scotland
James Forrest has already explained why players like Ralston are rare, calling it the hardest thing in football to deliver at without regular game time.
Forrest said: “I think it’s the hardest thing in football. Raldo has done it so many times. He goes away with Scotland, and he might not have played for a couple of months here [Celtic].
“But he goes and does really well. You see it here too. He might not be involved for a while but then he comes back and he never lets you down.
“We see him every day in training, he always gives 100 percent, and he’s got the quality as well.
“Coming through the youth team here, he knows what it takes. It’s great he’s still getting picked regularly for Scotland and it shows you how good a player he is.”
That assessment about Ralston comes from training with him day in, day out. When Forrest says he never lets you down, that defines his role inside this squad.
Anthony Ralston’s Scotland role reinforces Celtic value
Ralston’s ability to performs well for Scotland without consistent club football shows his level does not drop despite lack of first-team minutes for Celtic.
That foundation was built early, having come through the youth team and understood the expectations placed on him.
Ralston’s daily approach to his work at Celtic remains unchanged, as Forrest highlights he always gives 100 percent regardless of selection.
That is why his continued involvement, including getting picked regularly for Scotland, reflects Ralston’s dependability when called upon.
Celtic benefit from players who hold that line, and Ralston continues to prove reliability still matters more than minutes.
