James Forrest finding things at Celtic “really enjoyable”

Celtic winger James Forrest has spoken about how enjoyable being at Parkhead is this season.

The Scotland veteran went on a crazy run of form a couple of months ago. Forrest managed to bag a stunning six goals in six games during the month of August. Added to that, he’s bagged another one goal and nine assists this season.

These really are some stunning figures that Jimmy is tallying up this season. Compared to last term, Forrest had only managed two goals and eight assists. Those numbers weren’t bad either, but he’s stepped things up a gear once again.

No surprises then that he’s loving life at Parkhead these days. Speaking to the Celtic View (Volume 55, Issue 14, Page 13), Forrest opened up on his Celtic enjoyment.

“I don’t set myself personal targets. I just want to keep helping the team with assists and goals and play well for the team. It’s been a good start to the season for us and there are a lot of positives.

“We’ll learn and improve from the mistakes we’ve made as well. The team is playing well and it’s really enjoyable to be playing in. We’re creating chances, scoring goals, and improving a lot defensively.

“It’s really exciting just now and the boys are working really hard every day in training to keep building on the improvements we’ve made. There’s a great atmosphere in the team to keep improving, both individually and as a team so we’re all pushing each other to be better all the time.”

The potential to be Forrest’s best season at Celtic?

Forrest’s best season in terms of stats at Parkhead came in 2017/18. In that campaign, he managed 17 goals and 10 assists in 53 outings. It remains, to this day, his most statistically impressive campaign.

There’s absolutely no reason for him not to be able to break that this year. He may still be 10 goals off, but there’s still around two-thirds of the campaign remaining. Meanwhile, he’s already two assists away from his total from 2017/18 too.

With the attacking prowess Celtic have in their squad these days, Forrest should easily reach record-breaking numbers this season. But he’ll undoubtedly sacrifice it all if it was to mean another treble or even another league title.

But Forrest is also clearly extremely pleased with how things are going under Neil Lennon. It was Lenny who gave him his Hoops debut back in 2010. Since then, Forrest has done it all in Glasgow. And, to be fair to him, it’s all been through his own hard work.

Forrest struggled immensely during the Ronny Deila years. In Deila’s second and final year, Forrest only managed two goals and two assists in all competitions. It shows the improvement in the winger over the last three years.

Having him committed to the club is also a big boost. And, when the domestic action resumes against Ross County next Saturday, you can guarantee Forrest will be key in building momentum.
