Celtic winger James Forrest believes that having a settled squad this pre-season will help Ange Postecoglou’s squad continue their success into next campaign.

The 30-year-old has spent many a pre-season at Lennoxtown, having come through the club’s academy in 2010.

However, the veteran winger has admitted he hadn’t seen anything like the turnaround in players this time last year as the club underwent a huge rebuild.

Overall, Ange Postecoglou brought in 12 new additions, and the new squad had to adapt quickly in order to become a successful group.

That is precisely what they did, eventually going on to win a league and cup double in Postecoglou’s first season in the Parkhead dugout.

Going into the 2022/23 campaign, the Celtic squad is far more settled and looking forward to their first full pre-season under the former Socceroos boss.

James Forrest believes that will hugely benefit this Celtic side, now that the group are well adjusted amongst one another.

He said [Celtic TV]: “I think last season we were still signing two, three, four players right until the last week of the window, and I think it’s the biggest turnaround from a squad that I’ve seen since I’ve been here.

“But, we do now have a base and a core group again; I’ve seen that over the years, and that’s always when we have been the most successful. When you have got the majority of the squad, and everyone knows each other.

“I think the squad did settle in really quick last year, and I think that can only benefit going into this season.”

Settled squad now have time to work under Postecoglou.

The next five weeks could prove to be a hugely significant point in Ange Postecoglou’s reign as Celtic manager.

The ex-Yokohama F Marino’s boss now has plenty of time to work with his squad and continue the impressive improvements that were on display last season.

After such a hectic summer in 2021, both the players and coaching staff will be looking forward to getting to work on the training ground ahead of another busy season.

The Celtic manager could be about to take this side to a whole new level, building upon his early success.
