James Forrest’s Celtic contract may have been extended as recently as last year, but he’s once again ready to commit further to the club.
The Celtic winger signed a new deal tying him to Parkhead until 2022 (Celticfc.net). That was only as recently as last September – not even a full year ago.
Since then, Forrest has gone on to have yet another stunning campaign in green-and-white. He scooped up the Player of the Year awards in Scotland last season in a campaign that saw him collect 56 appearances, 18 goals, and 20 assists. It was a simply sensational year from Forrest, and how he hasn’t had more interest in him from elsewhere is mind-boggling.
But it’s not something the player himself seems concerned about. In fact, speaking to the Scottish Sun, Forrest’s only plan is to extend his Hoops stay further.
“I haven’t hidden the fact that I’d like to extend my contract at Celtic. It’s a busy period at the moment with a lot of games but when the time is right I’d love to commit to stay here for as a long as I can.
“The manager spoke about it in the press which was really good. You feel good when the staff at the club want you to stay. I would love to get it done soon and just concentrate on football.
“Nowadays you don’t get many one-club players but there’s not many clubs like Celtic. I think it’s a positive thing if you are staying at a big club like Celtic for so long.”

Lennon very much has Forrest in his list of favourites. Quite right too. Jimmy made his debut under the Northern Irishman, and it was Lennon who really gave him his chance to become a mainstay at Parkhead.
Lennon has already spoken about extending Forrest’s contract too (Daily Record). Another long-term deal could very well be on the cards in the near future. So long as our current manager remains at Celtic Park, it’s difficult to see Forrest going anywhere.
He’s a guaranteed starter in big games for Celtic. He’s also proved throughout the years that he’s a big-game player too. Making sure he stays in Glasgow is vital to our 10-in-a-row cause.
He may not have started the season in great form, but we all know it’s only a matter of time before he gets back among the goals. His performance-levels over the course of a campaign are generally top-notch. There’s no reason to believe this season will offer up anything different.
When the time is right, that new contract will get signed. There’s absolutely nothing stopping it with both the manager and player happy for it to go ahead.
Ideally, the sooner the better, but with his current contract still containing another three years, there’s no big rush.
