Hearts pushed Celtic to the final day as the Tynecastle club hoped to create history and win their first title in over 60 years.
However, it was what happened after the final whistle that stayed with Forrest, with brother Alan offering a rare insight into how the Hearts dressing room coped with the crushing Celtic Park defeat.

James Forrest shares Alan’s Hearts pain after Celtic title defeat
James Forrest is Celtic’s most decorated player but also knows a thing or two about losing out on silverware.
But it was what the Hearts players felt immediately after the defeat that Forrest shared as he told The Herald, “There was a lot at stake for everybody, so there was no time for wee jokes or that!
“I didn’t actually manage to see him that day, but I saw him the next morning. Obviously, he was gutted, and he was just saying that their lads and staff were gutted.
“But I think he told me that once they went back to Edinburgh, their fans gave them a great reception as well.
I think that’s good because the season that they’d done, they pushed us right to the end and made it good for Scottish football as well.
“I think everybody was really interested in that as well. A lot can be said for what they’d done, a lot of positives for them.
“So obviously they were gutted after the game, I think they stuck together as a group and that’s what happens in football.
“There’s highs and lows and it just happens so quickly and they move on to the next one.”
James Forrest explains why Hearts earned Celtic’s respect
The title race has created another layer of respect on what is already a close bond shared by James and Alan Forrest.
It was another unforgettable moment for James, but hearing how Hearts handled the disappointment gave him an even greater appreciation of how fiercely contested the race had been.
Hearts fell just short at Celtic Park, but Alan Forrest’s account showed how much the defeat hurt inside the dressing room. For James, it was another reminder that Celtic’s title had to be earned right until the final whistle.
