Celtic winger James Forrest has been in the senior fold for nearly 15 years and has survived the test of time under several different managers.

Starring in many a talented Bhoys squad, James Forrest is only two trophies off becoming Celtic’s all-time most decorated player and needs one more to pull level with Bobby Lennox on 25 winners medals.

Making his presence felt this term, the Scotland international has registered four assists in 13 appearances across all competitions this term, providing Brendan Rodgers with a cool head in dangerous areas.

While it is widely acknowledged that his game-time may need to be managed to avoid age-based decline, Forrest earned praise from Pat Bonner for his Celtic cameo against Atalanta before starting his first Scottish Premiership match since August against Motherwell last weekend.

Continuing to set examples on the pitch, Forrest has now responsed to queries related to where the current Bhoys squad ranks in comparison to some of the great sides of the past he has featured in.

James Forrest on the strength of the current Celtic squad

Speaking ahead of Celtic’s clash against Dundee tomorrow night, Forrest has admitted it would be hard to compare the current Hoops side to past outfits he has been a key feature in.

However, he did acknowledge the character present within the group, which has been evident across the campaign in both domestic and Champions League action.

He explained: “I think it’s hard to compare; I’ve been involved in a good few now. I think the confidence and belief in this squad is really good. I think you could see towards the end of last season and then we’ve kicked on this season as well.

“It’s a real strong core and a real strong team we’ve got as well, you could see that in some of the Champions League performances as well as the league.”

James Forrest continues to set incredible Celtic standards

In the modern game, it is rare to find a one-club man that has produced the same amount of consistency that Forrest has been able to exemplify at Celtic.

With 508 appearances to his name, the 33-year-old has registered 107 goals and 109 assists for his boyhood team and will continue adding to that tally over the course of the season.

Forrest’s Celtic contract is expiring at the end of the season, so it may be time to think about renewing his terms as he has too many evergreen qualities to pass up on come next summer.
