BT Sport pundit and Italian football expert James Horncastle has had his say on Celtic’s upcoming Europa League fixture against Lazio on Thursday.
He is wary of Celtic’s chances on the night, due to Lazio’s excellent attacking play, and the form of one man in particular – Ciro Immobile.
“Lazio have looked good this season” he said in an appearance on the Totally Football Show podcast.
“Difficult for any defence”
“Immobile, in this kind of form, it’s going to be difficult for any defence to stop that Lazio team from scoring. I think it’s going to be a complicated one for Celtic.”
There is no doubt that Immobile, should he play, is going to be the player that Celtic are going to have to be very wary of.
He has scored 10 goals already this season, which is an excellent record. The Hoops defence will need to be at their very best to keep the player quiet.
Will star striker start on bench?
It will be intriguing to see if Lazio decide to rotate their team for the game. Just like Celtic, their ambitions this season revolve more around the league than Europe.
They will be hoping to get into the Champions League via a top four Serie A finish, whilst Celtic’s main aim for the season is to win nine in a row.
However, you would imagine that Celtic will play their strongest team available for the game against Lazio. That might not be the case for the Italian side.
It would be a real bonus for Celtic if Immobile was left out of the starting line-up. However, if Lazio want to win the game, their best chance will be if their in-form striker plays. Therefore, Neil Lennon will be expecting the player to start against the Hoops.
