Shane Duffy has defiantly responded to yesterday’s Celtic defeat against Rangers, vowing to never give up on making it right again.

The summer Neil Lennon signing said, on Instagram: “Big and ugly enough to accept that today weren’t good enough from me personally and the team overall.

“I can accept the abuse towards me not the first and won’t be the last but I won’t ever give up on making it right again. It hurts today personally in such an important game for me to not play well and lose my first game for Celtic.

“Can only apologise to the fans for today it really hurts at the minute.”

Duffy certainly didn’t cover himself in glory during his first derby test but, then again, neither did anyone else in a Celtic shirt yesterday.

As he notes, it was the first time he experienced defeat in a Bhoys shirt having come in to steady a shaky looking defence.

Yesterday though, he was found lacking in defending set-pieces.

Rangers, in general, looked far more adept at dead ball situations, which isn’t necessarily a sign of Duffy’s lack of quality, but more that Celtic are disorganised in comparison.

It’s too soon to make definitive assessments of Duffy’s Celtic role, but it’s clear he will need to show improvement like the rest of his teammates if the champions are to achieve their goals this season.

Hopefully, that starts on Thursday against Serie A leaders AC Milan, or it could be a long night.

Despite his Saturday display, fans have been generally supportive in response to his Instagram.

High profile Bhoys like Crystal Palace’s James McCarthy and Motherwell’s Tony Watt led the charge, letting the Republic of Ireland captain know he has their support.

@a.j.bottema: Been in the door 2 minutes, takes more responsibility than almost anyone in the team. Quality player & real Celtic player.

@matthew210387: Big man you’ve been in the door 2 minutes and it seems to have you hurt more than some who have been there for years, you gave it all that’s apparent but some didn’t look interested and I hope these guys can understand how much it means to you and the supporters 💚

@dylanaaron92: It’s not the defeat that hurts today big man. It was the manner of the defeat. This is such a big season as you know and all we want is for everybody to leave it all in there on Derby day and sadly that didn’t happen today. Your a leader big man and we need you and Broony etc to help everybody to put this right. HH God bless! 🍀

@siobhanminney: Leagues aren’t won in October! It’s what we do next that matters most 🍀💚
