James McFadden believes that Celtic have always been in a better position than Rangers despite the struggles this season.
Both clubs in Glasgow have had difficult starts for different reasons which has resulted in managerial changes.
Martin O’Neill was appointed on an interim basis after Brendan Rodgers resigned while Danny Rohl replaced the sacked Russell Martin.
To add to the on-pitch frustrations, Celtic fans have protested against the board in numbers before and during games.
Despite this, McFadden thinks that the Hoops are still better-placed to succeed than their neighbours.
James McFadden on why Celtic’s problems weren’t as big as Rangers
Ahead of this weekend’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final at Hampden Park, the Open Goal podcast invited McFadden to discuss the latest week in Scottish football.
The topic of Celtic and Rangers’ struggles came up and while the former Scotland international realised that there were plenty of issues at Parkhead, he stressed that there was less to sort compared to their Govan rivals.
“Celtic are still in a good position,” stated McFadden. Danny Rohl has had a lot to do in a short space of time.
“Celtic have been in a better place this season, it’s come to a head in the last couple of weeks, but they were still winning games up until a couple of weeks ago.
“Rangers have had to have a big turnaround, which they have had.”
Celtic vs Rangers is make or break for both sides
It is very rare to say that the entire season for Celtic and Rangers hinges on a game in November.
With Hearts leading at the top of the table and in the title race, the two teams need momentum and winning a domestic trophy before January could be key.
That may also be the catalyst to help recruit new players in the transfer window and, in Celtic’s case, a manager capable of taking them to the next level.
This is one of the biggest Glasgow derbies in recent memory, and defeat could spell the end of the season very quickly.
