James McFadden states case for Lennon to be given time; unlikely to wash with Celtic supporters

James McFadden feels that Neil Lennon deserves time to fix the current problems as Celtic, BBC Sport reports.

The Hoops boss has come under massive pressure in recent weeks after a run of poor results, culminating in an embarrassing 4-1 loss to Sparta Prague on Thursday night.

However, McFadden feels that Lennon should get the chance to sort the current problems at Celtic Park.

“The first bad run”

It’s the first bad run Celtic have been on since Lennon’s returned. Look at the state of the club when he came in. Alright, the team had won trebles before that, but it was still a bit of a mess when he came in”  McFadden said, as quoted by BBC Sport.

“He steadied the ship, managed to see out another treble. He deserves time. However, teams will now start to look at Celtic and think, ‘what can we get from them’?” he concluded.

It is fair to say that this is Celtic’s worst run of form that Lennon has presided over in his second spell in charge of the club.

The Hoops have only won one game from their last six. That is a crisis at a club like Celtic. However, as McFadden says, Celtic have had constant success under Lennon since his return, winning every domestic trophy that has been available.

The here and now is most important to fans

However, McFadden’s comments might not wash with some Celtic fans. Those fans might well argue what was what the manager done in the last few seasons have to do with the here and now, and the fact that Celtic are struggling.

For the most part, McFadden has not taken into account just how poor Celtic have been at times this season. That is arguably what is upsetting Celtic fans the most. That for the most part the team is in a rut, that it is struggling to get out of.

The manager has to fix that, and the longer the poor performances go on the more fans are likely to be up in arms, and McFadden’s comments will be proven to be hollow.
