Dundee manager James McPake is full of praise for on loan Celtic keeper Conor Hazard.
Hazard is at the Dee on an emergency loan that continues to be renewed every week. A goalkeeping crisis with the blues is meaning Hazard is getting his chance to play first team football. However, McPake admits the Northern Ireland international has got work to do to be Hoops first choice.
James McPake speaks of Celtic keeper Conor Hazard
Dundee number one Jack Hamilton is continuing to nurse an injury that’s been keeping him out for weeks.
McPake admits that it’s a slow battle to bring Hamilton up to scratch due to the nature of how keepers play. Nevertheless, the former Dundee player is happy he has the opportunity to play Hazard in his place.
McPake told the Courier: “He is a young goalkeeper but he has experience of this league and also international experience.
“Celtic have three very good goalies at the club in Fraser Forster, Scott Bain and Craig Gordon.
“But Conor has just played in a big derby which was live on BT. That’s something he will have to continue to do if he wants to be Celtic’s number one.”
Perhaps keeping Hazard in Dundee will be best for all parties even if Hamilton returns as it keeps competition fresh.
Hoops keeper scenario next season?
As McPake rightly pointed out, the Hoops have three or four good goalies on their hands.
Forster is on loan, but due to his performances an extended move cannot be ruled out. Craig Gordon is getting older by the year and hasn’t been playing a lot of football recently. Meanwhile, Scott Bain is the only realistic option that will still be at the club following his new contract.
If all the others leave then it will only be Hazard and Bain fighting it out at Celtic. However, the fans will be calling for the board to stump up the cash and keep Forster.
