Celtic striker Kyogo Furhashi is set to lead the line against Brazil tomorrow, with Japan boss Hajime Moriyasu setting up the prospect with his pre-match comments.

Japanese outlet Soccer King has reported that Celtic’s Kyogo was part of the team involved in a practice game yesterday. The same players that Moriyasu has openly stated he’ll start for the game against Tite’s star-studded side.

Japan are set to face the Brazilian superstars in Tokyo tomorrow morning. Kickoff for the game will be 11:20 [Celtic Park Time], with the game following hot on the heels of Japan’s 4-1 mauling of Paraguay 4 days ago.

And speaking ahead of the contest, Moriyasu all but set up a start for Kyogo.

As quoted by Soccer King, Moriyasu said: “I think there will be a big change in players from the Paraguay match. Tomorrow’s starters were shown at yesterday’s open practice, so I don’t think there will be many changes. Basically, the team will consist mainly of the members from yesterday. I can only say basically, but I think it will be the same as I showed you. I haven’t thought about substitutions yet.

“We are looking forward to playing Brazil. I am sure everyone is looking forward to it, and it will be a good opportunity for people who are not interested in soccer, even the lightweight crowd, to see the match. I want to show how Japanese soccer can contribute to society.”

Kyogo set for big opportunity as Daizen Maeda appears destined for bench role

Kyogo was only given 8 minutes of the 4-1 win over Paraguay last week. Therefore, it stands to reason that he would be given a more substantial role against Brazil in the upcoming friendly ahead of the Kirin Cup.

As for Daizen Maeda, he was given a more substantial role against the Paraguayans. He was introduced at the break and played his part as his side dominated the second 45. However, for Daizen, it looks as though he’ll be on the bench. He’ll hopefully play a role in any case.

It’ll be a fascinating clash to see Kyogo up against the Brazilians in any case. If Moriyasu does indeed start with the Celtic forward, then he’ll likely be up against players such as Marquinhos and Thiago Silva. What a duel that will be.

Not to mention up the other end Japan will face off against players such as Neymar, Gabriel Jesus, and Richarlison to name but a few. Celtic fans may also want to take a look at Ko Itakura’s performance should he play any significant role.

A victory or a positive performance from either Celtic man in this contest will be a huge morale boost for them. Not to mention a real plus for the Celtic supporters. Let’s not forget we’ve still to see Daizen and Kyogo test themselves against UCL level backlines – tomorrow gives them that opportunity.

All eyes then on how they take to it.
