Andy Halliday has compared his Motherwell side to Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic.
Despite playing just two minutes of Scottish Premiership this season, Halliday has championed them in the media, singing the praises of Jens Berthel Askou.
The Fir Park boss has been linked with the Celtic hotseat, but his immediate goal will be to topple the Hoops in the table. Just four points separate the sides in third and fourth.
And asked if they were in the title-race, Halliday had an emphatic answer.
Would you take Jens Berthel Askou in the event that Martin O’Neill leaves Celtic in the summer?
Andy Halliday compares Motherwell to Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic
Asked on talkSPORT if they were in the race, Halliday said: “[It’s] Incredible. And, do you know what, like yourselves as huge football fans…
“For me, I’ve not seen a team in Scottish football, other than maybe Ange’s Celtic, play the type of football that Motherwell are at the moment.

“Just controlling games. I think a lot’s been spoken about the style on the ball and how good they are in possession…
“I think the team’s sitting with a 27+ difference, the highest in the league. Last season, Dundee United finished fourth with a -4 goal difference.
“But even off the ball. In comparison with the top leagues in Europe, Motherwell have the most clean sheets in Europe. 15 clean sheets.
“So it’s the eye test, it’s the data, it’s the metrics, it’s obviously the results. And I agree with you [about the title-race.
“Hearts’ consistency since the get-go has been incredible, and I think if you look at the first eight games for Motherwell this season, it was only one or two wins within that.
“But, especially over the last two months, I don’t think anyone can’t say, without doubt, that Motherwell have been the best team in the country.”
Motherwell played Wilfried Nancy’s Celtic off the park in December, narrowly losing to Wilfried Nancy’s side in October.
I want the next manager of Celtic to be…
Other Celtic candidates for the summer
Sutton mentions Roberto Martinez, who has been linked with the role given his links to Shaun Maloney – however, his involvement in this summer’s World Cup makes him a problematic choice for pre-season.
Also potentially competing at the World Cup is Craig Bellamy, the current manager of Wales who will discover his fate in the play-offs next month.
Robbie Keane links don’t seem to be going away, especially given his pre-existing relationship with Dermot Desmond.
Until we know for sure that O’Neill will leave before the end of the season, he can’t be ruled out.
