Celtic’s search for a striker continues heading into the 18th day of the January transfer window.
As title rivals Rangers and Hearts tool up with some fresh faces for the title run-in, Celtic target Franko Kovacevic agrees a deal with Ferencvaros to leave the Hoops still scrambling around looking to add only their second new player to the squad.
Julian Araujo joined Celtic on the second day of the transfer window, sparking hopes among the fans that a flurry of players were set to join the ranks and bolster the title defence.
Is the Irish market ideal for Celtic?
However, rather embarrassingly, Celtic have failed to add any further bodies to the team 14 days on, as fans grow increasingly impatient with the Parkhead board.
But it seems that Martin O’Neill may well have been on a scouting mission after the Celtic boss was spotted at an SPFL top-six side in the Scottish Cup this weekend.

Martin O’Neill visits Motherwell as Celtic striker search continues
Despite Celtic not playing until Sunday, O’Neill took the opportunity to take in a Scottish Cup tie as the Hoops boss cast his eye over his top-six rivals, Motherwell.
Jens Berthel Askou’s side are flying high in the Scottish Premiership and were taking on Championship side Ross County in the Scottish Cup.
The Steelmen won the tie 1-0 to progress into the next round leaving one big question, who was O’Neill watching as the Celtic boss continues to look for a striker for the Parkhead club?
Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou is ‘calm’ after Celtic boss visit
Askou has been a breath of fresh air for the Scottish game since joining Motherwell as the Steelmen’s fast-flowing attacking football earns plaudits all round.
Speaking about interest in Tawanda Maswanhise, the Motherwell boss confirmed there has been no bid from Celtic as Askou told The Scottish Sun, “Am I calm about it? Yeah. There was also interest in our players in the last window.
“That interest has been growing and will hopefully grow until we find the right moment with the player to move them on.
“That moment is NOT now. We’re halfway through a fantastic season so far, but there’s still room for improvement and that’s what we’re going to chase.
Is Tawanda Maswanhise good enough for Celtic? Let is know in the comments.
“We can’t keep Tawanda forever, and we shouldn’t keep him forever.
“But there’s no plan for any of our players to be moving on now, and there has been no-one coming with a big wish on that.
“On the contrary, everyone is really committed and excited about what we’re doing, and that’s the track we’re taking.”
Maswanhise scored the winner in front of O’Neill. Could the winger be on the Celtic boss’ list?
