Jens Berthel Askou is not just another name being linked with Celtic. There is already informed backing that gives the connection real substance.

Askou is gaining recognition from within the game and it’s not from speculation. That is what makes this link to Celtic worth closer attention.

There is a clear difference between outside noise and inside endorsement. This backing from someone who knows Celtic well sits in the latter.

That distinction becomes important when looking at whether a name linked to Celtic carries real credibility. In Askou’s case, the support is coming from someone who knows exactly what he is about.

Erik Sviatchenko’s view is shaped by direct experience, not distance. He had the pleasure to speak with him and spent time around him through shared coaching environments.

Sviatchenko told Celts Are Here, “My former manager Bo Henriksen, was at Mainz and he was close to Jens Berthel Askou, so Jens Berthel Askou would visit us at Midtjylland quite a bit and be around us.

“I had the pleasure to speak with him and we share the same agent. It’s been really, really good what he’s been doing at Motherwell. Motherwell is a historical club in Scotland and in that sense, what he’s doing is really impressive.

“The links with Celtic, I think it’s just nice that he’s linked. If it’s something that will happen, we’ll see.

“But for sure, it’s a different step being Motherwell manager and being Celtic manager. I think no one can really put into words how tough it is.

“I hope, from a fellow Dane to another, that it could be Jens Berthel Askou. Who knows?

“Sometimes I feel like there’s also a trend right now in the modern world that clubs are taking chances on younger coaches.”

The connection also extends through a shared agent, strengthening the professional link between them. Askou’s influence is being recognised by someone who understands the demands of the role.

Celtic would represent a different level entirely for Askou

There is no attempt to blur the reality of the step up involved. Sviatchenko openly states that no one can really put into words how tough it is when it comes to managing Celtic.

That context is crucial when weighing up any potential move. It reinforces that credibility alone does not remove the scale of the challenge.

Motherwell is recognised as a historical club in Scotland, but the expectations at Celtic sit at a different level entirely.

There is also a broader shift happening within the game. Clubs are increasingly willing to trust emerging coaches, and taking chances on younger coaches is becoming a visible trend.

Askou’s managerial profile adds further context to that discussion. His record at Motherwell shows why his name is entering these conversations.

This is not a Celtic narrative built on noise or loose links. It is one built on direct knowledge, clear praise, and an understanding of what the next step would demand.
