Jeremie Frimpong buzzing after Celtic performance vs Aberdeen

Jeremie Frimpong’s display against Aberdeen has left the player himself absolutely buzzing.

The Dutch youngster scored his first professional goal in senior football this afternoon. Some tremendous combination play with Odsonne Edouard led to Frimpong slotting home a low cross.

But the overall performance from Celtic was a dream at Pittodrie. Indeed, Neil Lennon’s side left Aberdeen with a 4-0 routing of the Dons. Rangers will now be tasked with having to score five at home to Motherwell without reply in order to overtake the Hoops.

It was a sensational afternoon for Celtic and Frimpong individually. And, speaking to BT Sport post-match (BT Sport 1, 14:00), the right-back was full of beans about his 90 minutes.

“It was everything I wanted. I got my assist and then the goal. It was quality and the fans were quality. It’s been a good experience so far and I hope it carries on.

“I’m playing in an excellent team. We’re playing good every week. So I hope we keep it up now. I’m enjoying my time here so far – it’s good.”

Statement made from the Champions

Everything about this performance just screamed “statement” from Celtic. They didn’t look under pressure from the start of the game, and it stayed that way for 90 minutes.

It would’ve been easy to feel that weight of expectation too. We had just come off a stunning victory over Lazio at Parkhead. As well as that, Rangers were to face Motherwell just an hour after our game ended. But Celtic produced a performance that will ensure they take the result of the weekend out of the two Glasgow sides.

But Celtic also dispelled a myth today in the Granite City. Slipping up after European games is well-known to lead to the excuse of players being too tired. Nobody could say Celtic didn’t put everything into beating Lazio on Thursday either.

Therefore, by securing such an impressive victory over the Dons, it proves that these players have it in them to play Thursday/Sunday matches. And that’s crucial for supporters to know as the season rolls on.

At the time of writing, Celtic sit three points clear at the top of the Premiership. That’s likely to be cut down by this evening, but here’s hoping our result will be enough to clinch top spot in the table for another round of fixtures.

And if it is, Frimpong can be delighted in knowing that he played a colossal part in making sure the job was done.
