Former Celtic star Jeremie Frimpong will never forget his time with the Bhoys in Scotland.

Despite only making 51 appearances for the club, he struck up a friendly rapport with supporters and has never shied away from praising his experience in Glasgow.

Now impressing with Bayer Leverkusen, Frimpong is destined for a long, successful career at the highest level.

But one fact remains for him despite his incredible journey amongst football’s elite – Celtic fans are second to none.

Frimpong admires the club so much that he still obsessively checks the team’s results, even when he’s playing matches in Germany.

Jeremie Frimpong says Celtic Park atmosphere ‘still the best’

Speaking this week, the 23-year-old said [Scottish Sun]: “I was back there with Bayer for a Europa League tie three years ago – and oh my days! The atmosphere was superb, still the best I have ever encountered in my career.

“Some people say that can act as a 12th man for Celtic, and there will be times when that is true. We eventually ran out 4-0 winners on the night, but we had to ride the storm while Celtic were being urged on by their supporters.

“I’m so grateful for my time at Celtic. They made me the player I am today. In fact, after we beat Wolfsburg last Sunday, one of the first things I did was seek out their result against Falkirk, as I had seen they were 2-1 down at half-time.”

More Celtic profit could come from Frimpong

Celtic sold Frimpong to Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of £11.5m in 2021, netting the club a tidy profit after his bargain signing from Manchester City.

He could generate more money too. The Dutch international is consistently linked with a big-money move away from Leverkusen and is reported by Sky Germany to have a €40m (£33.4m) buyout clause in his contract.

Celtic are widely reported to have a 30% sell-on clause on any profit from his future sale, so if he does end up leaving, then that could net the Bhoys close to £7m.

That would be a fitting additional chapter to the ever-friendly relationship between club and player.
