The Celtic supporters were left furious after right-back Jeremie Frimpong suffered a nasty challenge from Motherwell’s Devante Cole at Fir Park this afternoon.
The flashpoint occurred midway through the second 45, with Frimpong in possession down the right flank. Cole could then be seen jumping in as he fired his studs into the Celtic man’s leg.
Frimpong could be seen in some discomfort and eventually had to be subbed with around 20 minutes of the game to go. Hatem Elhamed came on in his place and provided a fine assist for Mohamed Elyounoussi’s late third.
Referee Andrew Dallas spotted the incident, but inexplicably only provided Motherwell striker Cole with a yellow card. That’s despite the fact Frimpong was writhing in agony and that it happened right in front of the fourth official.

It’s not the first time the Dutch youngster has suffered from some hefty treatment this season. Being one of Celtic’s main attacking outlets, the wing-back appears to be targeted regularly given that strength isn’t one of his main traits.
But it’ll be interesting to see how he recovers from this in the long-term. Celtic only have Elhamed there as cover, and given his recent injury concerns, that could end up giving Neil Lennon a bit of a headache.
Thankfully, the Hoops will now break up for international duty, giving Frimpong some time to mend his knock. Celtic return to action in just under two weeks with another must-win clash against Hibernian at Easter Road.
Meanwhile, the Celtic fans are irate with today’s latest dangerous tackle on Frimpong. Here’s a look at some of their reaction, with Dallas firmly called out for failing to call the incident correctly:
Hope the compliance officer will be looking at Cole’s “tackle” on frimpong. Shocking challenge.

Tackle on Frimpong reminded me of the one on Tierney a few years ago from another Motherwell hammer-thrower that also resulted in no red card. Hope Lennon calls Dallas out on it

Assault on Frimpong as clear a red card as you'll see all season.

Tackle on frimpong looks worse every time you see it. Makes you wonder how Dallas can Interpret that as a yellow .there’s no defence ?

We could have lost Frimpong for the rest of the season today… disgusting challenge and OK'd by Dallas. Things like that should give us all the motivation we need to ram it down their throats every game.

The right time for Celtic to raise the issue about the refereeing credentials of Andrew Dallas is after a victory like today.
The tackle by Devante Cole on Jeremie Frimpong has clear intent, & could have done serious damage to the lad. A straight red all day long.

@chris_sutton73 @mstewart_23 @JohnHartson10 Quite clear that Motherwell players re told to target Frimpong as this is the second time we have played to Motherwell and he has been on the receiving end of shocking tackles. Scottish Football never changes. https://t.co/T3VSD5IACl

How that wasn't a red for the challenge on Frimpong I'll never know.
He's either completely incompetent or has an agenda

That was a brutal challenge on Frimpong. Should’ve been a straightforward Red

.@celticfc need to come out and condemn the treatment dealt out to Frimpong. He has been on the end of some horrific challenges and or players are not being protected.
