St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin is still upset about the penalty awarded to Celtic during Wednesday night’s Scottish Premiership clash.
Bhoys defender Greg Taylor won a penalty in the second half, going down after contact from Ryan Flynn.
The spot-kick was converted by Odsonne Edouard, giving Celtic a comfortable 2-0 lead heading into the final ten minutes of the game.
Celtic would go on to punish the Buddies, sticking two more past Jak Alnwick.
Speaking in a press conference today [Not The Old Firm], Goodwin is still unhappy with the incident: “I can only say what I see at the time. That penalty on Wednesday night against Celtic was a really soft penalty. There was hardly anything in it.
“Ryan Flynn touches Greg Taylor’s shoulder, then pulls away very quickly because he realises what he’s about to do. Then, Greg Taylor’s legs just fall from underneath him.
“I can understand players if they get tripped up or there’s a kick on the leg, they stumble and fall over. I can’t understand how players could fall over when someone touches their shoulder.”
Goodwin would go on to criticise ‘certain individuals’ that he feels should be named and shamed for diving. He also suggests that Scotland could do with VAR to sort it all out.

Is Jim Goodwin right about Celtic penalty?
Greg Taylor will likely feel justified in his actions. He felt a tug of the shoulder in the opposition box. Most players in the modern game would go down in such a scenario.
If you have your hands on an attacking player in the box, you’re always at risk of giving away a penalty. I’m not sure VAR would have done much to overturn this specific penalty decision.
On the other hand, Goodwin probably feels that if the penalty hadn’t been given, his side would have had a decent chance of equalising in the match.

Thankfully that didn’t happen and Celtic would go on to kill the game off.
I’m not sure the St Mirren boss is going to find much joy going after opposition players and officials in the aftermath of matches. Clearly, though, he has a bone to pick.
In other news, 3 referee appointments have been confirmed for upcoming Celtic matches.
