St. Mirren boss Jim Goodwin has summed up the gulf between Celtic and title rivals Rangers by insisting we are “miles ahead” of every other team in the Premiership.
Neil Lennon’s men thumped the Paisley side 5-0 yesterday, with Leigh Griffiths netting a memorable hat-trick.
The defeat – a third this season to the Hoops – was a damaging one for the Buddies, but their boss still had the class to speak glowingly about us in the Parkhead press room following the game.
“Celtic are miles ahead of everyone in this league,” Goodwin told the Herald.
“It’s quite scary really, they probably never got out of second gear and still put five past us.
“Celtic have played 16 games here in the league and won 15, with Rangers the only team to beat them.
“They put four, five, six or seven past teams all the time at Parkhead and we’re on the receiving end of a sore one this afternoon.”
Goodwin is right to highlight Celtic home record
Our record at home this season has been pretty special.
Goodwin is slightly incorrect with his numbers. Yesterday was actually only our 14th win from 15 home league games – with the loss to Rangers the only exception.
We’ve only lost seven goals at home all season, and scored a remarkable 50. That’s an average of more than three per game.
St. Mirren, Livingston, Ross County and St. Johnstone have all left with heavy defeats while only Rangers, Aberdeen, Kilmarnock, Hearts and Hamilton have even scored at our ground.
Our home form is often taken for granted but it shouldn’t be.
The ability of our players to continually perform at their best and not take anything for granted is immense.
