Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin reckons the Scottish Premiership is the strongest he’s seen it for years as Rangers struggle and Celtic and Hearts do battle at the top.
Rangers dropped more points in yet another home draw against Dundee United at Ibrox as Hearts beat Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.
Celtic will play Dundee in today’s 12pm kick-off as Brendan Rodgers looks to close the five-point gap at the top of the league table.
And speaking after the draw with Rangers, Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin has claimed the Scottish Premiership is in a great place with only three points separating the Ibrox club from bottom-of-the-table Livingston.

Jim Goodwin believes there is a ‘battle’ in the league as Celtic, Hearts & Rangers have differing fortunes
Hearts are having the best start to the season since they tried to challenge Celtic in 2005. And as Rangers suffer their worst start since 2012, Goodwin still believes the league is the best he’s seen for years after his Dundee United side’s draw at Ibrox.
Goodwin told BBC Radio Scotland [15m], “Yeah, absolutely. I think the Scottish Premiership is probably the strongest that it’s been for a number of years. And I think you can see that even today with some of the results that have happened.
“I think it’s going to be a real battle for the top six places and for the European places. There’s no easy games in this league. But from our own perspective, we have to consistently try and get better.
“We have to give better performances over 90 minutes. When we play the way we played in the second half, we’ve done that numerous times this season. The unfortunate thing from my point of view is that we’ve been leading games on a few occasions this season.”
When Celtic weirdly face Jim Goodwin’s high-flying Dundee United
Goodwin’s Dundee United are sitting nicely in fourth place in the league table, six points behind Celtic.
The Bhoys have yet to face United this season, and it will be some time yet before Rodgers’ side will.
Celtic’s hectic fixture list means that they won’t play Dundee United until the 17th of December. By that time the Hoops will have played Dundee, Kilmarnock, Falkirk, Hearts and Aberdeen twice.
It’s a strange way the fixtures have played out but when the game comes around, Celtic will know they will have a game on their hands.
