Joe Hart addresses Celtic unity after Livingston defeat

Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart has stressed the unity that still exists within the dressing room despite a disappointing defeat to Livingston yesterday.

Ange Postecoglou’s side slipped to a 1-0 defeat at the Tony Macaroni Arena. There are now already major concerns about the early-season form, with Celtic losing six of their seven away games this term. In addition to that, we’re already four points behind Rangers too.

Whilst we all acknowledged a rebuild was needed and that things could take time to get back to the way they were, these recent results certainly weren’t in the script.

Hart has been a big part of ensuring things haven’t been worse on the pitch. And speaking after yesterday’s latest defeat, the Englishman believes there is still strong togetherness within the dressing room.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun, Hart said: “It was a tough game for us and I don’t think there’s much more to it than that. We didn’t take our few chances and we got punished by a good goal. The away form is a fact and we have to deal with that. We’re not running away from it.

“But we’re trying to build something, both what the manager wants from us and what we want. We’re all on the same page. It’s the start of the season, but we can’t really afford too many more of these — if any. But we’re all pulling in the same direction and believe that will work for us.

“It’s a tough one to take because we’re all trying to do something for this club.”

Celtic need to keep dressing-room morale high despite Livingston loss

It’s easy to keep a squad happy and tight when the wins are rolling in. They naturally lift morale and can be fantastic for momentum. It’s when things aren’t going too well that the togetherness can be severely tested.

That’s the kind of situation Celtic are in at the moment. Results haven’t been great and we’re struggling to build any form of solid run. There have been more setbacks than many would’ve hoped after Postecoglou was appointed.

However, at the same time, there’s still an understanding that this is largely a new squad. A squad that needs time to gel and get to grips with each other. There have been a lot of new additions, and things don’t just click naturally.

If the Celtic players’ heads stay down, we’ll never get out of this rut. We need them to continue to believe in what it is they’re working towards under Postecoglou. We need them to have the hunger to show their improvement on the pitch.

That’s why Hart’s message to the supporters yesterday is so important. At the very least, it gives Celtic fans reason to believe morale is still high and that everyone is still pulling in the same direction.

Hopefully, that starts to show on the pitch sooner rather than later.
