Joe Hart admits he didn’t know much about Celtic before signing; has since been blown away

Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart has admitted that he didn’t know much about Celtic before arriving, but has since been loving every minute of it.

Hart arrived in the summer in a £1million deal with Tottenham Hotspur [The Sun]. Initially arriving to plenty of doubters, he’s since won them over with a string of top saves that have highlighted his influence under Ange Postecoglou this season.

The former England number 1 has become one of the most important members of the Celtic squad this season. Not only did he immediately seize the number 1 spot, but he’s also shown fantastic leadership during his team in Scotland so far.

And as he reflected on his enjoyment at Celtic Park so far, Hart has admitted that he didn’t initially know much about the club. As quoted by the Daily Record, Hart said: “Respectfully, before I came here I didn’t know much about Celtic just as I didn’t know much about Wolverhampton Wanderers or much about anyone that I wasn’t necessarily involved with.

“In terms of expectation, I didn’t have any, but once I arrived I’ve loved being a part of the environment, the feeling which comes with being a part of Celtic Football Club and being part of the group of supporters home and away. Social media wise you become part of that as well. As a group, it’s something I’m enjoying getting to know and being a part of as well.

“Being part of something here which wants and expects victories in everything that we do, cup games are as important as every game. It’s as simple as that, every game is as important as each other. We are looking to improve and build as a group and Monday is no different.”

To say Hart looked done towards the end of his time with Tottenham would be a massive disservice to the man. But what can’t be denied is that things weren’t looking great for him after failing to cement himself at Burnley or Spurs respectively.

He’s now at a stage of his life where playing regularly needs to be a non-negotiable. Sitting on the Spurs and collecting a pay packet just wasn’t him. Therefore, you have to admire his determination to get back out and make himself a number 1 once again.

So many down south have looked up at Scottish football in what can only be described as a snobby manner. Hart can’t be accused of that. He has the utmost respect for any and all opposition he comes up against in the Premiership. That’s something you really have to admire from him.

He won’t have been the only one that didn’t know much about the Hoops before joining. Ange will have been a key selling point for many of them. Whilst the size of the club would’ve helped too. It was a massive step-up for many of our summer and January recruits.

And yet they’ve all come together in a fine show of unity. They’re all representing the club with the kind of determination and desire that we want to see in Celtic players.

Whether it leads us to the title or not is anybody’s guess. But we now have a team that we can be proud of – that’s undeniable.
