Carl Starfelt has said his goodbyes to Celtic in an Instagram post this evening, with his former teammates responding with well wishes.
Starfelt has made the switch to Celta Vigo in La Liga after two strong seasons with the Bhoys, where he won five domestic trophies for six available – including two league titles.
Posting on Instagram, the big Swedish defender said: “I want to thank everyone in and around Celtic for these two seasons, and an extra thanks to all the fans, your passion is what makes this club so special.
“I leave a lot richer in friendships, trophies, experiences and uncountable memories I will never forget.
I am always going to be grateful for my time here. Celtic FC, what a club.”
That prompted responses from some of Celtic’s biggest stars, including defensive allies Joe Hart and Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Hart commented: “Hellllllloooo mate. Good luck, loved every minute… go and smash it 💚”
Carter-Vickers added: “Good luck bro! Gonna miss you 💚”
It’s well known that Starfelt was a popular member of the dressing room. He also had a quality playing relationship with Carter-Vickers in particular, so it’s no wonder he will be missed.
The duo never lost a Scottish Premiership match they started together, a whopping 48 in total. It’s a phenomenal record that will be remembered for quite a while by supporters.
Everyone is hoping that Carter-Vickers can build a similar rapport with Maik Nawrocki or Gustaf Lagerbielke – the two summer signings that are the most direct replacements for Starfelt.
We wish Carl all the best with his next big career step in Spain. It would be great to see him impressive in La Liga and represent a growing list of quality Celtic exports well. That can only be a good thing for the Bhoys in the long-term.
