Joe Ledley was one of the Celtic goalscorers when the club last travelled to France to take on Rennes.
The Hoops scored both goals on that night in 2011 but only came away with a 1-1 draw – after Cha Du Ri’s infamous own goal gave the hosts the lead. Ledley’s glancing header earned the Hoops a valuable point on a night when they could conceivably have won the match.

And the Welshman clearly remembers that goal pretty fondly. He took to Twitter on the morning of the 2019 Britanny clash to retweet a video posted by a Celtic fan.

Ledley put in some good displays against Rennes
The video showed all six goals from the two encounters with the French side in 2011. Celtic backed up the 1-1 draw away from home by winning the Parkhead clash 3-1. They had to come from behind that night too with an Anthony Stokes double and Gary Hooper strike sealing an impressive victory.

Celtic are probably an improved side from those days. The general level of player we have has increased but the same can be said about our opponents – who specialise in cup competitions.
It promises to be an interesting affair at Roazhon Park and one that Ledley will probably be watching. It’s great that the midfielder still takes an interest in what’s going on at the club, and he still remembers some of his goals so fondly.
That’s what Celtic can do to you.
