With the January transfer window open for seven days, it is interesting to note that as yet Celtic have not signed anyone. There have been plenty of players linked with joining the club, but as yet no new arrivals.

One man who expects that to change is former Celtic striker John Hartson. Hartson took to social media to give his views on Scott Sinclair’s possible move to Preston, and to reveal that he expects the Hoops to make a few signings in January.

“Expect a few additions in this window” he said.

Just where will those additions be, is the question that will be on the lips of some Celtic fans. Well, striker seems to be a certainty. The Hoops will need to buy one to help Odsonne Edouard. Midfield and the on the wing could also be a possibility.

Will Hoops sign direct replacements for players that leave?

What will be interesting if the Hoops decide to sign a direct replacement for any of the players that leave the club in January. For example, should Scott Sinclair join Preston, will the Hoops buy a new winger, even though Sinclair didn’t start for Celtic once this season? Or if the likes of Jack Hendry or Craig Gordon leaves, will Celtic sign a new centre-back or goalkeeper?

What Celtic do in the next few weeks could decide if they win the league or not. The players that arrive at the club have to be good enough to fit into the first-team right away.

Neil Lennon and the rest of his staff at Celtic will be well-aware of that though. They will be factoring that in any new signings that the club makes.

John Hartson is probably correct with his prediction about Celtic making new signings. However, they will need to be players that are going to improve the team, to ensure that the Hoops win nine in a row.
