John Hartson expresses annoyance at four Celtic players, labels them a ‘disgrace’

Not only was it headlines that Celtic suffered a defeat at Kilmarnock over the weekend, it was also the manner of defeat which frustrated everyone.

Brendan Rodgers had been down this road before. He made it clear that he simply wasn’t happy with the first-half showing in Perth last time out.

So, when the Celtic players, not only started brightly against Killie, but also opened the scoring, you felt that it was a step in the right direction.

But that second-half response was just unacceptable and it left John Hartson fuming because he labelled the club’s entire back four a ‘disgrace’, as he told Go Radio.

With Cameron Carter-Vickers out injured, it meant that on-loan Liverpool centre-back Nat Phillips was handed a start.

It was his own goal that started the opposition’s comeback, as he simply didn’t have a great time.

Whilst there is huge expectation to win every week here, John Hartson hit the nail on the head when he stated that it’s unacceptable to not showcase any fight, which was the case against Kilmarnock.

Celtic’s defeat at Kilmarnock

“They have to get the mentality right,” said Hartson. “You are at a global club that you have to win every single week – at Celtic, you can’t lose.

“You have to win every single game and your performance, and the way that Celtic went down, they capitulated in that second half. I didn’t see much desire. I never saw people pointing the finger at each other.

“I thought the back four were a disgrace, at times. I really, really did. They have got to do better. They were weak. They got bullied. That’s not a Celtic back four.”

Response needed from Celtic

Yes, the fate is sealed for Celtic in the Champions League and it’s a bottom-of-the-table finish.

But that doesn’t mean that a lot still isn’t riding on the Feyenoord game, both in terms of wanting to see a response and then getting in that extra pot of money if three points are secured.

Plus, just from the perspective of getting some confidence in the system, a win is needed because this recent winless run in Europe is pretty barren and it needs to end.
