John Hartson has gone on a major Celtic rant as he called out the recruitment, John Kennedy, and Gavin Strachan.

Hartson is one of Neil Lennon’s closest allies, but even he has become disillusioned with the club over the past few months. Celtic have managed to build themselves up a disastrous rap sheet this season.

However, most frustrating for supporters is the fact that nobody is looking to be held accountable for it. There hasn’t been any sort of apology from the management team or the club for how the season has gone so far.

And Hartson has moved to call out several aspects of the club that has clearly annoyed him this term.

Speaking on Ten10Podcasts’ Instant Celtic Reaction show (16/01), Hartson said: “I don’t think the recruitment has been great. You can go through the players and name them one by one, asking if they’re good enough. I think Ajeti played four games for West Ham in 16 months and we paid £5million for him.

“What happened to the boy Toney at Brentford? He’s on 15 goals in 15 games, so I don’t know why we didn’t get him. At least we’d get someone who is proven already. Barkas, the keeper,    has been dropped   already for Conor Hazard. You could talk about the staff. What does Gavin Strachan do? What does John Kennedy do? Are they helping Neil?

“Does Neil not need to bring in his own person, someone he relies on and someone he wants to work with. Or are the board deciding who he works with? We don’t know half of these things. It has just been so frustrating.”

John Hartson’s Celtic rant doesn’t miss anyone; lack of clarity this season a big problem

Hartson more or less sums up the frustration of every Celtic supporter. He outlines some of the main grievances of the season to good effect.

The lack of clarity at the club this season has been staggering. There’s been no explanation as to how the likes of Kkennedy or Strachan’s role at the club. For example, why all three of the management team were huddled around a computer after Ross County took a 2-0 lead at Celtic Park with less than 10 minutes to go.

We’ve also not yet been given any information on why Celtic didn’t move to bring in Ivan Toney. Or even as to why Lennon is still in the job. In short, there’s just no accountability this season and no information getting passed to supporters.

We’ve never felt as disconnected from the club this season as we have for a long time. The board have played a major role in that and continue to do so.

Celtic fans wanted change this season when the campaign was still retrievable. That’s now no longer the case given how far behind we are to Rangers in the Premiership. The demand for change, however, has only grown stronger again.

And the likes of Peter Lawwell and Dermot Desmond haven’t been missed in supporters’ fury either. It looks like we’re in for one big summer at Celtic.

In other news, Celtic fans can’t be fooled by these terrific numbers from Shane Duffy.
