Joe Hart really has been a phenomenal signing for Celtic. Brought in at a time when the supporters still had Vasilis Barkas on their minds, the former England international has brought some much-needed stability to the Celtic backline.

And Celtic favourite, John Hartson has urged the club to look at extending his current deal.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Hartson said, “Joe’s [Hart] contract is up at the end of the season. Joe, I think he’s loved his time at Celtic. And I would think, from how well that he’s done and I’m not going to tell Ange how to do his business, by the way.

“But I would think on the back of how well he’s done and what he’s brought to the dressing room and vociferous around the pitch and everything else. I would think they’ll want to get Joe Hart tied up for a few more years.

“The fans love him and he’s playing in a successful team as well. He’s playing, he’s making saves. He’s really, really fitted in.

“He loves playing for the club. Vast experience over the years and he’s not done a lot wrong has he.”

Hart’s contract is actually up at the end of next season [BBC] but the point that Hartson is making is still valid.

Joe Hart is a quality keeper. Even at 36 years old, the former Spurs man still has a lot to offer at Celtic and it looks like he has no intentions of slowing down yet.

After making his 100th appearance for the club at Tynecastle, Hart is clearly loving his time at Celtic and come the end of the season he will, hopefully, become only the second Celtic player ever to win a treble in England and Scotland.

My thoughts on this are simple. Wait to see what happens next year. If Hart can recreate the form he has displayed this season then it makes sense to deal him in. But we should be looking for a succession plan.

We will need someone to eventually take over those big gloves soon. Until we have sorted that out, any talk of a contract extension for the big keeper can wait.
