John Hartson tells Celtic supporters "it's done" after watching rivals fail to win
John Hartson has told the Celtic supporters that the Scottish Premiership title race is “done” after the Hoops avoided defeat to Rangers.
The Ibrox side had to take 3 points in order to keep their title challenge up. However, they failed to get the job done at Celtic Park as Ange Postecoglou’s men more than earned their point.
Both sides had their spells in the game when it looked as though they could’ve won it. Celtic could’ve been out of sight by half-time. Rangers, however, finished strongly and struck the post late on through Fashion Sakala. But after failing to win the game, Hartson believes it spells the end of the Ibrox men’s title chances:
Hartson hits the nail on the head. From a Celtic supporter’s perspective, we should have won the game. Rangers shouldn’t have had the chance to get themselves back into things.
However, all that really mattered was avoiding defeat. We work all year to win the Premiership title. It’s unfair to then turn around and take a dig at the players/manager for how they manage to do it.
We’re now in the perfect position heading into the final 3 matches. Only 4 points are required and, should we achieve it, Celtic will wrap up the double.
Celtic must keep the head as they prepare for 3 big fixtures
So, now the agenda is clear for Celtic. 3 games and 4 points. It’s as simple as that. Their first assignment will come when Hearts come to Parkhead next Saturday. It’s another game that’s being broadcast live on Sky Sports too. Victory in that one and it effectively wins us the league.
Should we manage that, it’ll only take a point at Tannadice several days later to ensure it’s won officially. But the reality is that all we need is that victory against the Jambos. Win that and Rangers can’t come back. The goal difference will be far too superior.
Celtic could, therefore, effectively win the league before Rangers next play in the Premiership. After all, they won’t be involved in the league until they host Dundee United a week today.
It’s all about keeping the head at this stage for the players. There will be plenty of commentary stating that the league is over. There will be others who take the same tone as John. Others who will believe it’s all over and that the title is coming back to Parkhead.
And the reality is that will likely be true. After all, we need to drop more points in the next 3 games than we’ve done in the entirety of 2022. Is that really going to happen? You just can’t see the bottle crashing when it comes to these Celtic players.
We’ll see what next week brings against the Jambos. But it’s time to start getting excited.
