John Kennedy answers 19-game Celtic winning streak question

Celtic need to go on an incredible winning streak in the Scottish Premiership.

That’s the reality after an unfortunate defeat to Rangers last weekend.

Neil Lennon’s Bhoys are currently a massive 19 points behind the league leaders. With three games in hand, we can theoretically reduce that gap to ten.

If we manage to beat the Ibrox side twice, the gap would only be four points.

However, to win the league, a mighty streak is required – as well as a bit of favour from other clubs facing Rangers.

Celtic are at the halfway stage of the season, with 19 games left to play. Can we possibly win all of them?

That was the question put to assistant manager John Kennedy today.

The former defender stood in for the Celtic boss ahead of Monday night’s Hibernian test.

Kennedy said, on Celtic TV: “It’s got to be our mindset. There’s nothing else for it. We’ve got to approach it as positively as we possibly can.

“We know the situation is difficult. We know the challenge, but we’ll never lay down and allow things just to pass.

“We’re going to attack it. We’re going to go with a real purpose and drive to try and turn it around. Hopefully, at the end of the season, we can sit down in a better place.

“We’ll take each game as it comes, we can’t be looking 19 games ahead and say we’re going to win every one. Our approach before every game will be to win it.”

Celtic winning streak unlikely, but…

Celtic, as a club, are undoubtedly going to see through this Neil Lennon project until the very bitter end.

They’ve made it quite clear he has the backing of the hierarchy at Celtic Park despite the current situation.

A vast winning streak is unlikely given the way the season has panned out, but that’s the wagon that they’ve hitched their hopes to.

That’s all we can do too – hope. That’s not a pleasant way to start in 2021. We’ve become used to confident expectation.

That won’t be enough for many, but the reality is it’s the only thing keeping us going this season.

In other news, it’s time to bring Albian Ajeti back in from the Celtic cold.
