John Kennedy didn’t give much away when asked about the speculation linking Eddie Howe with the Celtic job pre-match against Falkirk.

The Bhoys are in Scottish Cup action tonight but the chatter around the club over the last few days has been dominated by reports suggesting Howe is on the verge of being appointed at the club.

Inevitably, Kennedy was asked about the subject on BBC Radio Scotland (18:36) before kick-off.

Kenny Macintyre queried whether he had been kept in the loop on the subject by the club’s hierarchy.

Kennedy said: “No, nothing. My job is pretty much to prepare the team for tonight. That’s all it’s been. I’ve not spoken to them on that.”

The interim boss was then asked whether all the speculation has been a disruptive influence at Lennoxtown.

He doesn’t think so, telling Macintyre: “The player’s focus is always on the football. When a game like this comes around, the most important thing is that Scottish Cup.

“The focus has purely been on that. There’s always speculation, rumours and stories going around. You have to put that aside to make sure your preparation is good for the game.”

Finally, Kennedy was quizzed on how he feels his own future.

There have been reports that the coach could be kept on under Howe, but Neil Lennon’s assistant isn’t fazed in the slightest.

He said: “It doesn’t matter. Honestly, I’m calm about it all. The most important thing is the club is in the right place. What will be will be. My situation is irrelevant at this time.”

There you go. Kennedy deftly batted away any controversy or giving anything away, as you’d expect. He’s been very good with the media since being appointed as caretaker.

Celtic are not going to speak on the Howe stuff until it’s official, that can almost be guaranteed.

We’ll just have to remain patient and keep our faith in the reporting out there from multiple mainstream outlets. It could be a long few days.

In other news, Celtic have held talks with Wigan Athletic striker Kyle Joseph.
