John Kennedy has reassured the Celtic support about the club’s January striker hunt, saying that work is ongoing “behind the scenes” but that any move “needs to be right”.
Neil Lennon is widely tipped to sign another forward this month, given the club’s reliance on Odsonne Edouard so far this season. Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Bayo are also on our books, but neither have shown the quality or consistency to be a worthy back-up thus far.
The name of Slovan Bratislava forward Andraz Sporar has been most widely mentioned, but the club is yet to even agree a fee for his services.

Kennedy says that there is work going on, but reassured fans that we wouldn’t be signing for the sake of it.
He told Sky Sports: “There are some options there which are going on in the background and will continue. And we would like to do that as quickly as possible.
“But it needs to be right. We don’t want to just jump into something that is not quite right for us.
“So there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes. It’s an area we are trying to improve to give us more options. But hopefully in the next week or two we can give you a bit more news on that.”

Sporar seems like the man
It seems very much like Slovenian forward Sporar is the man of our choice. As we told you last month, the club have already had Vienna discussions with his club over a potential move.
Neil Lennon also confirmed that the 25-year-old was “one of a number of options” (BBC) further adding weight to the theory that he will be paraded around Celtic Park at some point later this month.
Most fans would be delighted with that signing given Sporar’s recent scoring record. However, it is important that we have other options ready to pursue if any move does go awry.

That may be where the Glenn Murray rumours have come from. The veteran Brighton man would be much easier to acquire, on a short-term loan, and would add much needed strength to our options at the top end of the pitch.
But he should be a reserve option and no more. Sporar must be the man we go all out to get this month. And the sooner the better.
